Heading to the beach or playing in the pool with your toddler can lead to some great memories if safety is always your top priority. Here are a few important safety tips that, when followed, can keep your trip to the beach fun, safe and memorable.

First and foremost, always accompany your child into the water. Making sure you are within arm’s reach of your child at all times is the best way to ensure their safety in the water. Additionally, one of the most beneficial things a mother can do to keep her toddler safe around the water is to register them in swimming lessons before ever hitting the beach.  If your child has experience swimming beforehand, they will be better equipped to deal with the water should they somehow find themselves out of your reach. Staying close to your child and making sure they have prior knowledge of swimming are great ways to keep your time in the water safe and enjoyable.

Flotation devices and toys are useful for helping your child stay afloat in the water but they are not a substitute for life jackets. Having your child wear a life jacket is an ideal way to make sure they stay above the water. A life jacket paired with floating beach toys is sure to impress any water-loving toddler.

Another important aspect for keeping your child safe while at the beach or by the pool is to ensure that they are properly protected from the sun. Making sure you reapply your child’s sunscreen regularly when they are swimming is important even if the brand of sunblock you are using is said to be waterproof. Aside from sunscreen, it is also a good idea to have your child wear a hat while they are at the beach both in and out of the water. Comfortable, fun, and waterproof hats are often available for purchase wherever beach toys are sold.

Finally, one of the best ways to keep your time at the beach pleasant and safe is to make sure you pack lots of water. Dehydration is especially dangerous for babies and toddlers so ensuring your child drinks plenty of water is essential to having a good time at the beach. Do not forget to keep yourself hydrated as well, being your healthiest is important in order to stay alert and keep your children safe.

Nothing feels cozier than curling up with a hot cup of your favorite fall drink under a warm throw and not feeling guilty about staying inside because, well, it’s far too chilly out to be out there. So here is a list of our favorite, most delicious fall drinks. Enjoy!

Decadent Nutella Hot Chocolate *Crock Pot

  • 6 1/2 cups skim milk
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 T vanilla
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Combine all ingredients in the Crock Pot and cook on low for 2 hours. For a less sweet, more milky version, add 1 to 2 cups more skim milk.

Pumpkin Spice Coffee

  • Brewed Coffee
  • 1 T Pumpkin pie filling
  • Pumpkin pie spice to garnish
  • Vanilla creamer

Mix pumpkin pie filling and a splash of vanilla creamer to taste with cup of brewed coffee. Add whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice to garnish as desired. Enjoy!

  • Sea salt
  • Caramel Sauce
